Project description

Cloud&Heat Technologies GmbH supplied a liquid-cooled server rack including servers and hydraulic equipment to the Saxon State Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB).

As part of the project, initial practical experience with liquid cooling has since been gained in a public sector data centre managed by the SIB and the waste heat utilisation potential of such systems has been evaluated. The system achieves a heat recovery rate of around 50 % during operation. This means that around half of the electrical energy supplied is fed to the liquid circuit in the form of heat at a temperature level of approx. 60 °C (see illustration). The waste heat therefore has a significantly higher reutilisation potential than is the case with air-cooled server systems. The liquid-cooled servers used allow a reduction in the electrical energy required to operate server fans and are therefore approx. 20 % more energy-efficient than comparable air-cooled systems.
