Renewable solid fuels

Renewable solid fuels such as wood pellets or wood chips enable sustainable heat generation from renewable raw materials.

Description of the technology

Biomass includes organic fuels such as wood, straw or biowaste, which are used for sustainable heat generation. In residential buildings, pellet, wood chip or log heating systems are mainly used, offering a climate-friendly alternative to fossil heating systems. A prerequisite for biomass heating is sufficient space for the heating system and fuel storage. A sensible addition is the combination with a solar thermal system to provide additional hot water and reduce fuel consumption. Alternatively, a pellet stove with a water pocket can both heat rooms and provide heat for the heating system.

Promotion

A wide range of funding options are available for switching to modern heating technologies or energy-efficient refurbishment. Government programmes support investments in climate-friendly heating systems through grants, low-interest loans or tax concessions. It is advisable to check the available funding programmes before implementation and to seek expert advice from the relevant funding provider.
