Air-to-air heat pump

The air-to-air heat pump converts environmental heat from the air directly into usable room heat.

Description of the technology

The air-to-air heat pump (climate split unit) extracts heat from the outside air and transfers it directly to the room air, without a water-based heating system. It is particularly suitable for selective heating of individual rooms or as additional heating.

The outside air is drawn in by an outdoor unit and treated using a refrigerant. The heated air is channelled directly into the rooms via an indoor unit. Through the evaporator, compressor and condenser circuit, heat is continuously extracted from the ambient air and released into the room air. Some systems can also cool in summer, which increases comfort.

Key technical data and area of application

The heat source is the outside air, the heat is transferred directly to the room air. The efficiency is medium and is particularly suitable for individual rooms or small flats. Air-to-air heat pumps are attractively priced, easy to install and do not require radiators or water pipes. They are ideal for well-insulated buildings or as a supplement to an existing heating system.

Installation is straightforward, the technology is compact and can also be used in existing buildings. As the heat is emitted directly into the air, the air temperature in large buildings can be uneven, which limits their use as the sole heating system. They work particularly efficiently in combination with well-insulated rooms and supplementary heating systems.
